Brisser is your left back

Brisser was another convincing winner although he did have a slightly smaller majority than Dean West the previous week. He still picked up almost 40% of the vote though, in fact 39% to be exact.

His nearest rival was Jimmy Mullen signing Chris Vinnicombe with 23.8%. Vinnicombe arrived at the club from Rangers after the play off win in 1994 and stayed four years before moving on to Wycombe Wanderers.

Tom Cowan was third with 17.8% and had he had a longer run at Burnley would have been a certain winner. He came in with Paul Cook towards the end of the 1998/99 season and was an instant hit with the fans. The following season he hardly got a look in and was subsequently released. He only just qualified for the vote with his limited appearances.

The last three really were also rans. Firstly there was Les Thompson who collected 8.6%. Thompson was with the Clarets for two years after signing on a free transfer from Maidstone. He couldn't win a place in the side in his first season but was a regular next time round and played in the play off final. He then turned down the offer of a new contract and moved on to Accrington Stanley, his last game being the play off final.

Joe Jakub took 7.6%, a player that saw the fans turn against him after he called them a load of cabbages. He was part of the 4th Division Championship side and was released at the end of the first season in the new Division Two.

Finally, and I find this difficult to believe, is Gordon Armstrong with just 3.2%. I can only assume that many associate Stretch with the centre of defence or midfield given his low scoring. He has been with the Clarets for four years and has just signed an extension to his contract. He was first choice left back at the beginning of last season.

Now it is turn to choose your central defenders. We have eliminated some names from the options, such as Lee Howey and Steve Blatherwick and are delighted to say that Neil Moore has not made the poll either. The top two this week will win places in the team which so far is:

Marlon Beresford
