Boyeson steps in as Gibbs says no again

Gibbs is fourth from bottom of the RATE THE REF Table but we've gone two steps down with Boyeson who currently sits 62nd out of 63 with a rating of just 35.32 out of 100, that from a recording of four games.

That rating is a recovery too. Back in August he refereed our away game at Middlesbrough and got himself a rating of over 54 to improve on a shocking rating of just 29.04 previously. That rating came about because of his total inability to deal with Portsmouth's time wasting in April 2011 and Brighton's appalling antics a year later. Thankfully his performance at Middlesbrough this season was nothing like as bad.

One thing about him, despite him having twice sent off Burnley players, is that he doesn't overuse his cards and this season he's yellow carded 57 players in 26 games, just over two per game, and has sent off only two players.

Of those yellow cards, 25 have gone to home team players and 32 to away team players. Ten of those games have been in the Championship and one of the red cards came in those games, that of Charlton's Michael Morrison in a 1-1 home draw against Derby on the last Saturday of 2012.

Boyeson's last game was Morecambe's 3-0 win against Rochdale three days ago. Morecambe's Andy Fleming was the only player yellow carded in that game.

The assistant referees tonight are Anthony Backhouse (Cumbria) and Barry Gordon (County Durham). The fourth official is Steven Copeland (Merseyside).
