This season he has refereed five Championship games but is a referee who predominantly gets lower division games in what is his seventh season as a Football League referee.
Unless we are League One Leeds or Brighton then we can't expect too many yellow cards. He refereed the league game between those two clubs at Elland Road back in October and handed out no fewer than eight yellow cards.
But that's not been typical of him this season, and including those eight, he's given out just 33 yellow cards in 28 games along with a couple of red cards to Rotherham's Marc Joseph in a Boxing Day 1-0 win over Port Vale and more recently Chris Zebroski of Wycombe in a 2-1 defeat at Bradford City.
In exactly half of those games there have been no yellow cards at all including a run of six consecutive games earlier this year. Of those 33 yellows , 15 have gone to home team players and 18 to away team players.
He missed a lot in that Layer Road game, hopefully he won't tonight. But we can expect an undemonstrative referee.
He will be assisted by Chris Akers (South Yorkshire) and Steven Cummins (Cheshire) with fourth official duties in the hands of Lee Metcalfe (Lancashire).
