Boothroyd's first managerial role was at Watford with his first match in charge a 3-1 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor. But it was his first home game against the Clarets that showed him in his true colours when he claimed winning was all that mannered as his team scored with Brian Jensen down on the ground and in considerable distress.
He took them up to the Premier League but, like us, Watford came straight back down again. They started the following season well but faded badly and after a difficult start to last season he was dismissed.
An early vacancy at League One Colchester got him back into management last September and they looked to be heading for the play offs until they faded in the last few weeks of the season.
Yesterday, Colchester gave Coventry permission to speak to him and today Coventry City have confirmed that he has become their new manager. Boothroyd has signed a three year contract.
