Booth replaces Hill at Bristol

Last updated : 19 December 2008 By Tony Scholes
Booth, from Nottinghamshire, joined the Football League list for the 2004/05 season and this will be his third Burnley game. The second of those was our 2-0 defeat at Norwich last season when he turned in as bad a performance as the visiting team.

I wrote then: "This was a referee who wasn't seemingly aware that he had to treat both sides in the same way, this was a referee who believed it was the done thing to continually favour the home side. His performance didn't have any effect on the result thankfully but it was totally unacceptable, a bit like our performance really."

He hasn't refereed many games since. Last season didn't get underway for him until February and tomorrow will be his first game of the current season, presumably because of injury. Last season in 13 games he handed out 25 yellow cards of which 8 went to home players and 17 to away players.

Booth is not a referee to go for his cards too readily, although he does tend to favour the home side far too often, and it is almost two years since he sent anyone off.

He will be assisted by Andy Davies (Hampshire) and Mark Weaver (West Midlands) whilst the fourth official will be Stephen Phipps (Oxfordshire).
