Blant is today's guest

Blant made his Burnley debut as a centre-forward in a League Cup tie at Shrewsbury in 1966. His league debut came at Stoke over the Christmas period in that season and in February he scored his first goals, getting both in a 2-0 win at Blackpool just days after the team had arrived home from the Fairs Cup triumph against Napoli.

He was always thought to be a soft player but in the following season he was moved to centre-half and soon won a reputation as a hard man. On one occasion, at Liverpool, he was booed throughout by the Kop for his challenging of the home forwards.

We played there again that season (1968/69) in the cup and coach Jimmy Adamson said, ahead of the game, that Blant loved it. "The more you boo him, the better he plays," said Adamson. Blant was cheered by the Kop all afternoon.

He made 66 appearances for Burnley before moving to Portsmouth in a £5,000 deal in April 1970. He played 64 times for Pompey, scoring one goal, before going on to play for Rochdale, Darlington, Grimsby and Workington, leaving his last club as they lost their place in the Football League.

Now aged 64, this will be the first time Blant has done the half time draw at Turf Moor.
