Blake and Roche take the Clarets Mad awards

Robbie Blake - Clarets Mad Player of the Season 2003/04
Robbie takes the prestigious Clarets Mad Player of the Year award after winning a total of fourteen Man of the Match awards in our voting polls and at one stage in the season he won four in successive matches.

He was behind Richard Chaplow at one stage but the youngster had to settle for second place although he did pick up Man of the Match awards in two of the last three home games. Chappy can be well pleased to finish second in his first season of first team football.

But it just had to be Robbie who fell just one goal short of becoming the first Burnley player to score twenty league goals at this level for 69 years and with his wish to continue as a Claret there is hopefully even more to come.

It was something of a surprise that he wasn’t the outright winner of the Goal of the Season award, he did have four entries in the final vote taken between the monthly winners.

His free kick against Gillingham in the FA Cup jointly shared the award with Lee Roche’s goal on the opening day of the season against Crystal Palace. Roche’s deflected long range effort was hammered into the same Cricket Field End goal as Blake’s free kick.

Chappy’s superb volley against Ipswich polled the highest monthly vote but had to settle for third place.

Our congratulations to Robbie Blake and Lee Roche.
