Bikey is a Claret

Andre Bikey
The 24-year-old international has signed a three year deal with the Clarets and will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's opening home game against Manchester United.

He hasn't played any competitive football since his amazing shirtless departure from the Turf in May in the play off semi-final when playing against us for Reading. That landed him with a five match ban in the end of which he's served four games.

The last of the five games comes tonight and despite him now being a Burnley player the last of those games will be Reading's Championship game at Swansea this evening which leaves our new man free to play against Manchester United tomorrow.

He signed for Reading in a £1 million deal from Lokomotiv Moscow. That was in the summer of 2007 and followed a one year loan deal at the Madejski Stadium during which time he played against the Clarets for the first time in the FA Cup.

Reading's Director of Football Nick Hammond said this morning after the deal had been completed: "Andre stayed with us last summer to help us get back into the Premier League, but this time around he was desperate to play at that level; he felt it crucial with regards to his World Cup ambitions and also the African Cup of Nations, for which he will be away in January.

"Andre is a great lad, and I am sure the fans will miss him because he gave us some great moments. We wish him every success for the future."

Bikey can also include Espanyol and Shinnik Yaroslavl to his list of clubs and his signing today adds even more competition for the defensive positions with David Edgar free from suspension and particularly once both Michael Duff and Steven Caldwell are fit.
