Big win in Italy

The complex, now owned by Chievo Verona, is an excellent facility and there was a small terraced area on one side that housed most of the Burnley supporters who were at least thankful the sun was going down, even though the game ended with the temperatures still in the thirties.

We took an early lead when Wade Elliott played in Andy Gray who found Steve Jones to score from close range and Jones doubled that lead by converting a ball from Wade midway through the half.

That first half was held up on occasions by drinks breaks, and how they were needed, as well as some eccentric refereeing, not the sort of thing you would expect in Italy - we believe it could well have been Pierre Luigi Laws.

The Clarets made a number of changes in the second half, as did our opponents, but we continued to dominate and the goals just started to go in. Firstly Andy Gray got himself a well deserved goal and then Kyle Lafferty, so impressive as a substitute, added the fourth.

Jones had gone off at half time but he returned to get two more before the scoring came to an end with an own goal.

There's no doubt the opposition were not as good as Bolton, but they had some good players in particular one outstanding midfield player, but Burnley showed a clinical edge to their game whilst passing the ball around in a style of play very easy on the eye.

7-0 it was and that just left time for the warm down and then for the manager, players and staff to mingle with the fans, sign autographs and make themselves available for photographs. A good win ended with some very good PR by our club.

It's back to the same venue on Friday for our final pre-season game before we head back to England on Saturday.
