Greavsey was appointed manager on Thursday after Wayne McIntosh took the difficult decision to step down to spend more time with his family. And his first team-sheet saw an almost complete new back line, with three out of the four defenders having joined in the summer.
The hosts started brightly and had all of the game in the first few minutes. We soon began to find our stride, however, with the central midfield partnership of Ged Stephenson and Dean Lorriman setting the pace of the game superbly. There wasn't long to wait until the scoring was underway.
Ste Wynne played the ball in from the right and Clarets Mad's sponsored player for this season Tom Henderson finished superbly through a crowded penalty area. The goals then came thick and fast, Dean headed in from a corner and then Hendy grabbed the third, his second, from the penalty spot.
It was 4-0 within 25 minutes as Simon Walton played a ball over to Ste on the right, whose first-time cross was met by the head of Ric Davies at close range. Ric and Dean both grabbed another goal each before the half-time whistle to make the score 6-0 at the interval.
Chester came out for the second half determined to stop us adding to our lead and set out with the majority of the team behind the ball. We continued to create chances though and several players were unlucky to score before Marv finished off the move of the game. It started in the middle of the park, before the ball was played out wide left to Simon. After stringing several passes together, the ball was put perfectly just in front of the centre-back who made no mistake to make it 7-0.
He looked delighted with the strike, probably because we were beginning to think he had a curse with Chester games. When we faced them in the Merseyside tournament last season, he put the ball over the bar from a yard out. Then in the first half yesterday, he repeated the feat, hitting the bar from practically on the goal-line. Buoyed by his strike he then went one better and finished off the scoring with a screamer from outside the box.
So we returned to Burnley with a final score of 8-0 and placed 4th in the league table with a game in hand over the three teams above us, providing none of the two games whose results have yet been submitted finished with a higher goal-difference than ours.
