Big night for Duff

It looked as though he wasn’t going to get on but as the clock ticked down and coach Lawrie Sanchez saw his side holding onto a 1-0 lead against a poor England side he made a couple of substitutions including Duff for Hull’s Stuart Elliott.

Willie Irvine was a member of the side that last beat England and apart from tat It is well over twenty years since Northern Ireland even scored a goal against England, that coming from another former Claret Terry Cochrane, so it will be a cap to remember for him even though he was on the pitch for no more than two or three minutes.

In the same group Poland went further ahead of England with a 1-0 win against Poland which saw Danny Coyne again in good form for the Welsh. He kept them at bay, particularly in the first half, and was beaten only by a penalty that was given away by our former loan player Richard Duffy.
