Big Chris back in England (just about) with Chester

Chester were relegated at the end of last season but won a reprieve when Hereford were kicked out, and manager Steve Burr is now planning for the new club's second season in the league just below the Football League.

It was speculated last week that Iwelumo, who was hardly the most popular of strikers at Turf Moor in recent years, would be joining them and the signing has been confirmed today with the Scottish international signing a one year deal.

Burr said: "Chris will be a big addition to the squad and like the rest of the lads we've got together, he can't wait to get started. He's experienced, big and strong and he will be a real handful to play against.

"When we found out he was available we had a chat and as soon as he came to the stadium and saw the training facilities we have and listened to our plans he wanted to be part of that. He will add some great experience to what is quite a young squad we are working with."

The former Claret told his new supporters: "Chester are a big club and I just want to get going in pre-season and take it from there. The stadium is impressive and I'm looking forward to pulling on the shirt."

Iwelumo could get an early opportunity to play against one of his former clubs with Burnley's development squad visiting the Swansway Chester Stadium on Tuesday 22nd July.
