Berisha blow for Clarets

According to local sources he has already undergone surgery to repair the damaged cruciate ligament after further scans showed the extent of the damage. He received the injury last month in Albania's friendly win over Malta. He said that he felt his knee tighten as he went up for a header.

Other than friendlies we are yet to see him in Burnley colours. Only recently both manager and player admitted it would take time for him to settle. Now it will be next season as he begins the long road to recovery from this very serious injury.

Hopefully he'll be back stronger than ever next season, and if he needs any encouragement he only needs look at Michael Owen's goalscoring return to the England team this week.

This though is shocking news for the player who we've only really seen in action playing for his country.
