Beast is cup's top man

Roman Pavlyuchenko might well have broken our hearts in January but he's come second best at the end the day, both in the final and also in the vote for the Player of the Tournament.

The Russian, who had scored in every round, failed to complete that run on Sunday as Spurs left Wembley with nothing, and although he was considered favourite by many to be voted the tournament's best player he finished just above third place in the end.

There were seven candidates, including Burnley players Martin Paterson and Brian Jensen, and it was Jensen who came out on top. It was no surprise either; he played well at Chelsea and capped it with the two memorable saves in the shoot out, and then turned in a master class of one-on-one goalkeeping in the 2-0 win over Arsenal in the quarter-final.

In the vote, conducted by sponsors Carling, he won 42% to win by some distance ahead of Pavlyuchenko who was second with 22% just ahead of Manchester United's Carlos Tevez.

Pato, along with Nani, Nathan Ellington and Jamie O'Hara picked up the remaining 15% of the vote.

Well done Beast, a fully deserved honour to cap our Carling Cup run.
