There were mixed views on the performance, but certainly not the result as that solitary goal ensured a second successive win at the home of our rivals and stretched the run without a defeat against them to over five and a half years.
We had our heroes, and undoubtedly Arfield was always going to be high in the reckoning having scored that goal, but he had to settle for third place in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.
The same four players finished in the same top four positions in both with Joey Barton a clear winner in both. He polled 49.1% of the vote for the man of the match, claiming his second award of the season having previously won the vote at Rotherham.
Goalkeeper Tom Heaton remained unbeaten in goal, the first Burnley goalkeeper to do so against our local rivals since Alan Stevenson in the 1-0 win at Ewood in April 1977. His performance won him a 20.9% share of the vote and second place.
Arfield was third with 13.5% and central defender Michael Duff, who has now played in eight East Lancs derbies, was fourth with 6.1% of the vote.
Barton's player rating was 8.40 out of 10 to take first place with Heaton's 8.06 claiming runners up position again. Arfield came in third with a rating of 7.66 whilst Duff's rating of 6.91 out of 10 secured fourth place.
The points awarded towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year are ten for Barton, six for Heaton, four for Arfield and two for Duff.
Duff is moving ever closer to the top two. He's now just four points behind Michael Keane, who is in second place, and only nine points behind leader Tendayi Darikwa.
With just one game remaining in October, the result for the Huddersfield game next week will also include the October player of the month. The winners so far have been Keane in August and Darikwa in September.
