I-I-Irvine-Irvine-I was the chant for the then prolific goalscorer, still the best I've ever seen in a claret and blue shirt, and on Saturday it was Ashley Barnes, the player who has nicked his chant, who scored our superb equalising goal only for us to lose the game, someone unfortunately, 2-1.
His goal, added to his overall performance, has rightly won I-I-Ashley-Ashley-Barnes both the man of the match vote and the player ratings on Clarets Mad.
He was a convincing man of the match winner, polling 41.1% of the vote. That was ahead of his captain Jason Shackell who was second with 17.1%. The third and fourth places were taken by Dean Marney and Michael Keane who won 12.0% and 5.7% of the vote respectively.
It was the same top two in the ratings. Barnes was again the winner. His rating was 7.75 out of 10, just ahead of Shackell this time who won a rating of 7.63. Following them this time were Danny Ings and Tom Heaton who took the next two places. Ings was third with a rating of 7.29 and a 7.04 out of 10 won Heaton fourth place.
That result gave Barnes the maximum ten points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Shackell won six points with two each for Ings and Marney and one point each for Heaton and Keane.
That result has seen Shackell go six points clear in the table, ahead of Scott Arfield who is in second place and now only five points ahead of Ings. Lukas Jutkiewicz remains in fourth place but Barnes is now fifth and Heaton joint sixth with Michael Duff and all three are now close to the 31 points won by Juke.
The voting over the Christmas and New Year period will be as follows.
Liverpool (h) - from evening of 26th December to end of 29th December
Manchester City (a) - from 30th December to 1st January
Newcastle (a) - from 2nd January to 4th January
Tottenham (h) - from late 5th January to 8th January
