Bally and Stretch back with Sunderland

Bally captains Sunderland again
We have already had the Manchester and Yorkshire heats of the competition and one former Claret, Tony Philliskirk, excelled this weekend. He scored in each of Sheffield United's games. Besides Philliskirk we have also seen other ex-Clarets taking part, namely Tony Morley (Aston Villa), Alan Harper (Everton), Brian Laws (Nottingham Forest), Kevin Russell (Leicester City), John Gayle (Coventry City), David Hamilton (Blackburn Rovers), Willie Donachie, Nigel Gleghorn, Jamie Hoyland and Wayne Biggins (Manchester City) and Chris Woods and Chris Waddle (Sheffield Wednesday).

This weekend though will see one team turn out with two former Clarets and one current Burnley player. At the Newcastle Arena the Sunderland team will be captained by Kevin Ball, probably the most popular choice with the Sunderland fans and they will also include goalkeeper Tony Norman and current Claret Gordon Armstrong. Stretch recently signed a new contract with the Clarets but he will wear the red and white stripes again in the popular indoor competition.

Bally's full squad is Tony Norman, Kevin Ball, John Kay, Gary Bennett, Gordon Armstrong, Steve Agnew, John Byrne, Colin Pascoe, Colin West, Paul Hardyman.

Should any Burnley supporters wish to go and give Bally and Stretch some support the competition takes place this Sunday at the Newcastle Arena starting at 5:00 p.m. As can be expected with the North East heat the teams taking part are Sunderland, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Southampton. Yes, Southampton.

The Southampton squad will also include a former Claret, loan player Steve Baker who was with us during the 1983/84 season.
