Baldwin leaves Bradford with plaudits from fans

In announcing the appointment, Burnley didn't give any real indication as to what his role at Turf Moor would be and indicated that he'd already started his role although Bradford have confirmed he'll make the move from 3rd November.

He hasn't come in to replace anyone and current chief executive Lee Hoos said: "It's great to be able to welcome David to the team here. He has an incredible amount of experience in the game and he has done great work at Bradford City over his time there.

"I'm looking forward to working with him as we try to drive the organisation further forward in an exciting for everyone in the Barclays Premier League."

I know little about David Baldwin. No, until this morning I knew nothing about David Baldwin. He's been involved with Bradford, the club he supports, for the last seven years and for the past four years has also been the CEO of Richmond International Academic & Soccer Academy, based at Richmond, the American International University in London. It is an academy with a real Bradford flavour that employs such as Terry Dolan and John Hendrie as coaches.

What I did find interesting were some of the comments left by City supporters on the Bradford Telegraph & Argus web site.

We've had four chief execs at Burnley. Andrew Watson, who arrived initially as a general manager, was the first and he's since been followed by Dave Edmundson, Paul Fletcher and Lee Hoos. I don't think it's a secret that I did not like Watson at all but the other three I have got on with very well, none more so than Fletch who I've known for years and was without doubt the most approachable.

Whether they've done a good job for the club is another matter but all four have had reasonably lengthy stays at Turf Moor which suggests their work has been fully appreciated by the board.

I recall, in an early conversation with him, Hoos saying that, given he was the one expected to deliver any bad news, he expected not to always be the most popular man around.

So, back to Baldwin and those messages from the fans. The first came from someone posting under the name of eccleshillad. He said: "Massive loss to the club. This man has turned City into a  slick forward thinking operation with a great fiscal ethic.

"Always approachable and willing to sort out anyone's problem no matter how small. Good luck for the future David, really sad to see you leave."

Another, spearmint, wrote: "Big loss, I believe DB has been working for next to nothing at City but we will have to pay a salary to a replacement so why didn't we offer to pay him that money?

"A lot of knowledge and ability walking out of the door."

Baby Bantam added: "Losing Dave Baldwin is as bad or worse than losing Phil Parkinson to a Premier League club. He was the true backbone of the club and played a crucial part along with  Rhodes and Lawn with getting this club back on its feet.

"Hope the chairmen don't rush into getting a replacement because we need somebody as efficient as Dave was and they're hard to come by."

And finally, from binglebantam-ms54: "I have personally dealt with David on business matters at VP and he is a clear thinking, straight talking guy.

"His dynamic input in the dark days, 'post admin' probably saved the club. Many thanks and good luck to you David. You will be a hard act to follow."

Further comments can be seen on their claret and banter message board.
