Baggies at the Turf to get season underway

Tony Mowbray - will bring his West Brom side to Turf Moor to kick off the new season
West Brom were just one game from reaching the Premiership last season, losing to Derby in the Play Off Final at the end of last month, and after they get our season underway we travel to Scunthorpe United, who were promoted, and that is bound to remind us of our last league visit there in 2000 when we ourselves clinched promotion.

The first of the three promoted clubs to visit the Turf will be Blackpool on 15th September whilst Watford will be the first of the three relegated clubs to visit us, but that won't be until the first day of March 2008.

It's home again on Boxing Day, and we really couldn't have been given a bigger game for the holiday fixture with Sheffield Wednesday our visitors. The last time we met Wednesday on Boxing Day was in 1961. We won 4-0 with goals from John Connelly (2), Jimmy McIlroy and Jimmy Robson. We ended the season in second place in the league and reached the FA Cup Final and I'm sure we would settle for that this time around.

The holiday period continues with a home game against Bristol City before we bring the New Year in on the Fylde Coast and a visit to the half a ground. We can only hope the weather is not too bad with us sat out in the open, albeit with a cracking view of the tower.

We play host to Preston two weeks before Christmas and travel to Deepdale on Easter Saturday, which is on the 22nd March, but this season that will be the only Easter game with a blank date on Easter Monday.

Six of our home games next season are scheduled for midweek evening games, these being against Ipswich, Norwich, Hull, Leicester, Scunthorpe and Charlton. However, there are only four away games scheduled. Two of those are not too far away at Sheffield Wednesday and Hull but we do have midweek visits to both Watford and QPR.

We are away for the last game this time but the Turf Moor curtain will come down with a visit from Cardiff on 26th April, and the season itself ends with just about the worst away trip of the year to Crystal Palace on Sunday 4th May with an early kick off. We ended our season at Selhurst Park in 2003, on that occasion against Franchise.
