Edgar, who is missing Burnley pre-season due to his involvement was named in the Canada side for his first competitive international since they went out of the World Cup after suffering a 8-1 defeat against Honduras last October.

They were expected to beat Martinique tonight in the competitions opening game, played in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, but as the game went into stoppage time it remained goalless.

Then, in the third minute of stoppage time, disaster struck as Fabrice Reuperné scored to give Martinique the points.

Canada's remaining group games are against Mexico Centurylink Field in Seattle, Washington on Friday and Panama at the Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado next Sunday.

Should they recover and win through to the knock out stage, the quarter finals start on Sunday 20th July with the final a week later .

The Internationals feature has been updated.
