Bad news for Johnny Mac

It was all innocuous, just as referee Uriah Rennie was about to ensure the first half with him taking centre stage at a free kick, McGreal went down in the box. No one was quite sure what had happened, some fans were chanting for a Southend player to be sent off believing we had just had a ‘Wayne Thomas' incident.

What had happened was that McGreal turned and caught his studs in the turf. It was hoped that there was no serious damage and that he'd be fit for Plymouth, but the scan showed that the news is not good and he's torn his medial ligament.

He's expected to be out for about six weeks, and including yesterday's game at Home Park he's set to miss at least nine games, there seems little chance of him being available until the trip to Coventry on 9th December at the earliest.

He was out of the side at the beginning of the season but returned when Thomas faced his first suspension at Palace, his form since ensures he'll be badly missed.
