Back to the seaside

Bloomfield Road - with the away seating to the left

It was an easy win against a Yeovil side that was a pale shadow of the one that had entertained us so much in the two legs of the semi-final and goals from Robbie Williams, on loan from Barnsley, and Keigan Parker saw them through to a 2-0 win.

It takes Blackpool back to the second tier of English football for the first time since they were somewhat controversially relegated in 1978 in a season when they beat us at the Turf early in the season before we got ourselves a point in a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road at Easter with a goal from Malcolm Smith.

Our last games against Blackpool came during our promotion season of 1999/2000. On that occasion a Micky Mellon goal won it for us at home, and I think we can all remember him running backwards almost the full length of the field to let the visiting fans know just who'd scored the goal. At Blackpool, Graham Branch scored an equaliser to give us a 1-1 draw, incredibly the last away points we dropped that season.

We can only hope it is a dry day when we go, the seating for away fans is the temporary style uncovered seating on scaffolding. Somehow I'm expecting it to be on a miserable wet November Tuesday night.

Around this time tomorrow we'll know the complete line up for the Championship following the play off between Derby and West Brom.
