Jay Rodriguez - his goal has won us a trip to Chelsea
It is a game that will see the Clarets play at Stamford Bridge for the first time in almost 26 years when we lost 2-1 in a second division game when Brian Laws scored our goal from the penalty spot.

This will be our first ever meeting in the League Cup but we have played each other on four occasions in the FA Cup, including the five game marathon in 1956. We've lost on all of those occasions so are looking for our first ever cup win against them.

The last of our cup meetings came in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1977/78. This week Jay Rodriguez scored as we beat Fulham 1-0 at the Turf, and back in 1978 we'd also beaten Fulham 1-0 at home in the previous round, on tha occasion the scorer was current Chief Executive Paul Fletcher.

The game was played in midweek at Stamford Bridge having been postponed on the Saturday at the last minute because of a waterlogged pitch. Fletcher was again on the mark and scored in the first minute, but by the time Steve Kindon got our second eleven minutes from time Chelsea had scored six times to bring our cup hopes for the season to an end.

This tie is expected to be played on Tuesday 10th or Wednesday 11th November in a week that will see us play away from home three times. We are at Wolves on the Saturday before and QPR on the following Saturday.
