Back the Kids Campaign

Youth team captain Ryan Townsend
Against all the odds our under-18 team, skippered by Australian Mancunian central defender Ryan Townsend, have won through to the final of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup after beating first Preston and then in an exciting semi-final Tranmere Rovers.

Now it is Oldham on the Turf in the final next Monday 26th April kicking off at 7:00 p.m. and these lads deserve our support after playing in front of crowds of just over 200 in the previous rounds.

Wouldn’t it be brilliant if, when Ryan leads them out next Monday, they could see a far bigger crowd in the Bob Lord Stand? Surely we can give them better support than they have previously received this season.

Matches below first team level don’t attract many and our reserve game against Preston this week was watched by only 150 spectators.

But this is a cup final, a chance to say thanks to the lads who have given us something to shout about in another disappointing season, a chance to back them as they try to bring some silverware to Turf Moor.

They will be pulling on the Claret & Blue shirt representing our club in trying to win a trophy – they are doing their bit so come one, we can do ours.

If you can get to the Turf next Monday then please do and give them your support. We are not setting targets but surely we can at least get 500 there to get behind them and hopefully see them lift the trophy.

We last won it in 1995 when a Phil Eastwood goal at Maine Road gave us a 1-0 win against Manchester City. There were more Clarets at Maine Road that night than have watched this season’s home games in the competition.

Admission will be just £3 so this is not an attempt to boost the clubs coffers, although I’m certain that Dave Edmundson and Barry Kilby will be delighted to see more coming through the turnstiles.

This is a campaign to get Burnley supporters to come out and support the youth team as they look to bring a trophy to Turf Moor.

So come on, give them the support they deserve and BACK THE KIDS
