Award ends great month for Danny Ings

I was surprised he wasn't nominated for either the August or September awards after he made a blistering start to the season, scoring five goals in each of the opening months.

But he made the nominations this time after another excellent month that brought him three league goals, one in the 2-1 victory over Reading at Turf Moor and two goals in the next home game that gave us a 2-0 win against QPR.

But to add to that he also won his first international call up when Gareth Southgate selected him for England under-21s and he went on to make his debut, coming on as a substitute against San Marino.

To add to that comes this award that was won in the first two months of the season by Huddersfield's James Vaughan in August and David MGoldrick of Ipswich in September, a month that saw Jason Shackell nominated.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "Danny has a desire to learn and improve, and is making very good strides on his journey into developing into a fine young player. In my opinion, he is fully deserving of this award."

Don Goodman, now a Sky pundit, added: "It's always nice to see players get rewards for their efforts.

"Danny Ings' fantastic start to the season has seen him earn his first call up for England Under-21s. He has struck up a formidable partnership with Sam Vokes, and is sitting on nine goals for the season, which is a terrific effort so far."

Co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz was delighted with the double award and he said: "This is a double first for Burnley and well deserved recognition of the work both Sean and Danny have put in this season.

"Congratulations to them and to the rest of the squad who have given us a record breaking start and lifted the spirits across the club and the town.

"Our form so far this year shows what can be achieved with a strong work ethic and dedication and long may it continue."

Since this award was introduced in 2008 he becomes the third Burnley winner. Robbie Blake took won it in March 2009 and just one year ago, in October 2012, it was won by Charlie Austin who had scored four goals in four games.
