Auto Trader v Mr. Pompous

As far as we know they did not come to blows at any time during the meeting but there was certainly some ill feeling in there. For a start Charles Koppel was there representing Milton Keynes FC the new club that has railroaded itself straight into the First Division of the Football League from nowhere. Given the Football League's strong stance on those goings on it is fair to say that he would not have been the most popular guest at the party.

It gets even better though. Newly promoted Reading were represented by their Auto Trader owning chairman John Madejski who has threatened to walk away from football because of the antics of Mr. Pompous and the administrators at Bradford City.

Madejski is disgusted at the sacking of players at Valley Parade and has clearly said he will walk away from Reading if they get away with this and are allowed to continue playing in the First Division. He has said that the football industry will become a mockery if clubs are allowed to ignore contracts signed in good faith by sacking players without good reason.

Madejski added, "There have been clubs who have gone into administration and come out stronger because of it, but to employ expensive players then go broke and reinvent yourself is not on, and is not conducting business according to the rules.

"I don't think it's realistic that I would quit. The whole situation was discussed at a Football League meeting on Friday."

It looks from that as though Mr. Pompous and his administrators have been told in no uncertain terms by the other chairmen to get their club in order.

There is no doubt that had it come to blows Madejski v Pompous would have been a second major heavyweight contest this week.
