Austrian adventure underway

The National Sports Centre at Obertraun
Fans were arriving on various flights from the UK and one from Birmingham also included the official club party who on arrival in Austria were quickly on a coach and making their way to the National Training Centre in Obertraun.

The centre is where they will be based this week, a specialist centre used already by Everton, Plymouth and Stoke this pre-season, and it is situated some 75 kilometres from Salzburg. It is embedded in the Dachstein Mountains and can be found on the eastern shores of the Hallstättersee Lake.

It is not going to be an easy week for the Clarets and they were reporting for training this morning at 7 a.m. local time which I would suspect would have been something of a culture shock for the media team and journalists who have travelled with them.

As for the fans, most of them are basing themselves in the picturesque city of Salzburg, almost certainly best known for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and The Sound of Music. The fans will travel to Ebensee for the first game whilst the second game in Freilassing is no more than a suberb of Salzburg despite being in a different country.

So last night the hills could well have been alive with the sound of ‘Come on You Clarets’ or maybe it was a few beers and ‘Eine kleine Nachtmusik’.

Clarets Mad will be leaving Burnley late tonight and will be there in good time for the first fixture and will return after the second game on Saturday evening.
