Aussie set for Turf Moor

The 21 year-old central defender is from Perth in Western Australia and moved from Perth SC to Atalanta in Italy after leading the Australian Under 17s to the final of the World Under 17s Championships in 1999. He signed a four year deal with the Italian club.

He initially played in the Primavera, an under 19 league, and in the 2001/02 season was loaned out to Monza in Seria C.

He is certainly a player highly thought of in Australia and looks set to be involved in their Under 23 squad for the Olympics in Greece next year where he could come up against former Claret Dimitri Papadopoulos.

He has apparently been training with the Clarets this week and the player’s agent said, "Adrian has made a great name in Italian football but he now needs to find a team that can guarantee first team football. Burnley’s manager, Stan Ternent wants him badly and an English adventure in turn is appealing to my client."

The player himself confirmed this adding, "I would like to thank my previous Italian clubs, especially Atalanta, for all that they have taught me, but it is now time for me to find my legs and I believe that England is the ideal place for a quality move. After all Burnley have come looking for me and I would be ungrateful not to accept Mr Ternent’s offer."
