Atkinson is back at the Turf

Last updated : 08 May 2009 By Tony Scholes
Atkinson was the man in charge of our Carling Cup game at Spurs and ahead of that game I described him as not the most demonstrative referees in the Premier League and at the time he'd not been over busy with his cards. Since then however he's more than caught up and has been averaging almost four and a half cards per game.

He's taken his total for the season, in 37 games, to 125 yellow cards and ten red cards. Of those cards 51 have gone to home team players and 74 to away team players. The red cards have been split with five home and five away.

Three times this season he's sent off two players in a game, two Wolves players in their 2-1 defeat at Preston, and one from each side in the Championship clash between Swansea and Cardiff at the Liberty Stadium and Blackburn's 2-1 win at Hull.

He had a quiet enough game at Spurs, hopefully it will be the same tomorrow.

He will be assisted by Phil Sharp (Hertfordshire) and David Richardson (West Yorkshire) whilst Football League referee Jonathan Moss (West Yorkshire) will be the fourth official.
