Two of his three Burnley games to date have been eventful but not for the reasons you would expect. The first time he refereed Burnley was at Crewe in February 2005 and that was the night the lights went out.
He upset both managers when he was allocated his first game at Burnley. On that occasion he called the game off against Norwich because he said the ball wouldn't bounce in one small area of the pitch. He refereed it when it was re-scheduled later in the season.
Last season saw him issued 109 yellow and 6 red cards in 42 games. So far this season he's reached nineteen yellow and two red cards in seven games. Those two red cards came in the same game between Preston and Wolves when he sent off Chris Iwelumo and Wayne Hennessey.
The Iwelumo card was appealed with the player suggesting the referee would without doubt overturn it when he saw it again. The appeal failed. Of the yellow cards, ten have gone to home team players and nine to away team players.
Tomorrow he will be assisted by David Richardson (West Yorkshire) and Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire) and the fourth official will be Football League referee Neil Swarbrick (Lancashire).
