Ashley getting closer!

Ashley Barnes played his first full 90 minutes following his return from injury in a 2-1 defeat to Rochdale’s first team squad.

Dean Marney, Chris Long, Kevin Long, Daniel Lafferty and Matt Gilks also all featured in the Development Squad’s latest training match at the Barnfield Training Centre.

Winger Brad Jackson scored the Clarets solitary goal in the defeat, however vital minutes on the pitch was the main objective from the game.

The visitors took the lead in the 71st minute after a tight first half, through Rhys Bennett, with the centre half tapping into the bottom right corner from a set-piece.

The Clarets responded immediately with midfielder Dean Marney showing his class with a stunning ball over the Rochdale back four to find Jackson, who found the bottom left corner with ease.

However, an 89th minute strike sealed the win for Rochdale following a good build-up, and a killer finish from Dale’s forward to end the Development Squad’s run of five successive wins.

Burnley: Gilks; Birch, Trialist, K Long, Lafferty; Green (Frost 67), Yao (Wilson 80), Marney, Hill (Agyei 67); C Long (Jackson 19), Barnes

Elsewhere in the Academy, the Youth Team beat Fleetwood Town 3-0, with Tristen Jumeau, Tinashe Chakwana and Josh Dolling scoring the goals.
