What a first season though and Arthur, having started the season with an occasional place on the bench went on to make 34 league appearances with 31 of those starts. If he made an immediate impact then he has now reached cult status and to get round the difficulty of saying Ar-toor No-aye-ray he has simply become known as ARTHUR,
Last week he became the first ever winner of the Clarets Mad Player of the Season award, an award he has picked up because of your votes, and today we can reveal that he has done the double, again because of your votes, by picking up our Goal of the Season award.
Cast your mind back to Deepdale in December. Arthur scored his first goal for the club to give us a lead and it was soon 2-0 courtesy of a great finish by Glen Little. Suddenly it was 2-2 just before half time and the game was right back in the balance.
Quite what one of our central defenders was doing down the left wing is anyone's guess but he was, made a run on goal, played a 1-2 with Alan Moore on the edge of the box and then with great strength and great control of the ball was able to hit home the winner. It wasn't just the quality of the goal but the importance of it and it proved to be the winning goal in the local derby in front of the television cameras.
In the final goal poll of the season Arthur's goal picked up a huge 46.8% of the vote, more than twice any of the other goals. Paul Cook's long range chip against Walsall on the Turf came second with 22.1% of the vote but then we are into the also rans with David Johnson in 3rd place for his goal at Portsmouth picking up just 7.9%.
The response from you to over the season for the best player and best goal polls has been staggering and we would like to say thanks for your response. Without it there would have been no worthwhile votes and no worthy winners. Because of you response we can say
Felicitations Arthur
