Arfield goal wins October vote

As it happens it was a good goal, a good finish from Arfield from just outside the box at the Blackburn End of the ground having received the ball from Ben Mee. I've saw the goal live and I've seen it countless times on the television coverage since and I reckon I'll be seeing a lot more of that goal and the celebration for some time to come.

I think if it had been a fluke that had gone in off his backside it would have still won the vote. The question always centres on whether you should choose a goal because of its quality or because of the occasion and the effect it has.

I think Scott's goal fits all the categories but it certainly also had some quality challengers even though the goal was the runaway winner with a massive 63.4% of the vote.

There were seven goals to consider although four of them never really got out of the starting blocks. They were the two at Rotherham, from Andre Gray and Sam Vokes, along with the two goals Gray scored in the home win against Bolton.

Gray did get into the top three though with the last goal of the month, his second in the 2-1 win against Huddersfield, an outstanding strike that left goalkeeper Jed Steer helpless on his near post.

That finished third with 13.4% of the vote, just behind Matt Taylor, the August winner, whose superb late left footer at Nott'm Forest to earn a draw received 18.3% of the vote.

But it is Arfield's goal who joins the two previous monthly winners, that Taylor free kick against Birmingham in August and George Boyd's winner against MK in September. All three goals will be included in the Goal of the Season vote next May.
