Are Celtic back in for Lafferty?

Or do they? The answer would be a definite YES if you read the headline in one Scottish newspaper this morning, but the article says anything but that, it just comments that Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is monitoring the situation.

It does look to have got the correct information on the offers from Rangers and Wolves, and quite correctly, following yesterday's wild speculation, details that no offer from Wolves has been accepted either with our without Stephen Elliott and Darren Potter.

It suggests that Strachan could offer Derek Riordan as a makeweight in any deal and that's a move that could, almost certainly will, interest Clarets boss Owen Coyle.

Riordan is not Gow, neither he is either of Elliott or Potter. There's one big difference, Riordan is a player we know that Coyle is actually interested in signing, a player who we tried to bring to Turf Moor in January but had offers turned down by the SPL Champions.

I suspect Laffertygate is set to run a while longer yet. I don't think he'll be with the Clarets come the start of next season. And if so, where he goes doesn't really interest me as long as it is the best deal for our club.

Meanwhile we still await our first signing of the season despite having been linked with seventeen players as I know of. I've always thought that the first signing might be a goalkeeper, could it be Penny?
