Anthony Shandran goes out on loan

Last updated : 28 January 2002 By Tony Scholes

Shandran has joined St. Patrick's Athletic of Dublin for a month to gain some first team experience. St. Patrick's are one of the top sides in Ireland and finished fifth in the league last season. Anthony looks set to make his debut for them tomorrow when they take on last season's champions Bohemians.

Shandran made his first team debut for the Clarets coming on as a late substitute in the 4-2 defeat at Crewe a year ago next week. He hasn't featured for the first team since, in fact he hasn't even made the bench. Last season he was a prolific scorer in the reserves but this season, with Dimitri Papadopoulos and Tony Ellis often getting the nod to start up front Anthony has spent a number of games on the bench and in others played out wide on the right.

He is a player I have always been impressed with in reserve team football and a player who surely must have been very close to a first team call up at times last season. This move will benefit everyone, Anthony will get some competitive football in a tough league and that means he will return to the Turf in a month with that little bit more experience than he has gone with.

We hope he does well out there and we also hope to be able to keep you updated with his progress with St. Patrick's.
