Another Wales call for Sam

Last updated : 24 February 2014 By Tony Scholes

The game will be played in nine days time on Wednesday 5th March and, if selected, it will be a tenth cap for the striker since he signed for Burnley in the summer of 2012, during which he's scored the one goal in a 2-1 friendly win against Austria in Swansea.

Coach Chris Coleman, who yesterday saw Wales drawn to play against Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belgium, Israel, Cyprus and Andorra in the Euro qualifiers, has named a strong squad for this friendly.

He said of Vokes:  "Sam just needed someone to trust him and give him a run in the first team. He is playing every week and he needs that.

"He is looking very sharp and has fitted in well at Burnley. He has a great mentality and he can be a big player for us if we set-up for that sort of player."

The Welsh squad is: Wayne Hennessey (Crystal Palace), Boaz Myhill (West Brom), Owain Fon Williams (Tranmere), James Collins (West Ham), Ben Davies (Swansea), Danny Gabbidon (Crystal Palace), Chris Gunter (Reading), Adam Matthews (Celtic), Ashley Richards (Swansea), Sam Ricketts (Wolves), Neil Taylor (Swansea), Ashley Williams (Swansea), Joe Allen (Liverpool), Jack Collison (West Ham), Emyr Huws (Manchester City, on loan at Birmingham), Andy King (Leicester), Joe Ledley (Crystal Palace), Jonathan Williams (Crystal Palace), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Simon Church (Charlton), Jermaine Easter (Millwall), Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading), Sam Vokes (Burnley).
