Another signing on the way

So it was something of a surprise after yesterday's game at Southampton when, discussing the debuts of Mike Pollitt and Eric Djemba-Djemba, he revealed that there could be a further signing during the next week ahead of the home game against Norwich City.

He gave no clues as to who the player is but said he'd been monitoring him for between twelve and eighteen months, and believes he will be a very good signing for Burnley if he can get him. There were no suggestions of position either but I can only suspect that this is very close to a done deal, otherwise I don't think Steve would have said anything.

Even this week he appeared far from happy at revelations on this web site that we were about to sign a Premiership goalkeeper on loan, that keeper being Pollitt, and that was only hours before he deal was announced. He's certainly sparked off speculation with his after match comments and the only thing we can say with some certainty is that it won't be David Beckham, after all he wouldn't want to come here, even for the money, would he?

So it is wait and see time again, but how different things are from previously. In January 2005 we had to sit and watch as both Robbie Blake and Richard Chaplow left, and then last year suffered as we saw Ade Akinbiyi move on to Sheffield United.

It is so different now, both the Chairman and Chief Exec have said for some time that the manager would be supported in January, and that's certainly happened since the window. Ade's returned, we've got the two loan signings, and we now have a very good chance of another still to come, and I think maybe more than one.

Just over seventeen days I make it before the window closes and we can all settle down again. But it is so much better being buyers than sellers.
