Another quiet week in Division One

New Preston signing Ricardo Fuller
Preston's new boss Craig Brown has spent £500,000 on Jamaican international striker Ricardo Fuller who is now joining his second English club. He has signed from Jamaican club Tivoli Gardens but played 27 games in the Scottish Premier League with Hearts last season where he obviously came to the attention of Brown.

The season before he proved to be a very costly mistake for Crystal Palace when their incompetent manager at the time Alan Smith paid £1 million for him. He started just two games for Palace before returning to Jamaica.

The Preston fans are worried that last season's instant hit Clyde Wijnhard will not be joining them on a permanent basis and it looks as though Fuller could be coming in to replace him. He scored eight goals for Hearts last season including one against Celtic albeit in a 4-1 defeat.

The only other transfer news has seen one of the Caldwell brothers at Newcastle join Coventry on a long-term loan. The younger of the two Gary is still to make a league debut for the Magpies but has now collected four Scottish caps.

He had loan spells last season with Darlington and Hibs where he played 4 and 11 games respectively. The 20 year-old defender will now have the opportunity to win a first team place in the First Division with Coventry.
