Another new man in the middle

Haywood, like Saturday's referee, is in his second season on the Football League list and it is only a week ago since his first game at this level when he took charge of Blackpool's 3-1 home defeat against Norwich. Prior to that all his league experience has been in Leagues One and Two.

Last season he averages just over three yellow cards per game and this season so far he's just below that with forty in sixteen games. Sixteen of those cards have gone the way of home players with twenty-four away players have been yellow carded.

To add to that he's sent off two players and both have been home players. Darlington's Xavi Barrau received a red card in their 1-1 home draw against Peterborough as did Adam Eckersley of Port Vale in a 1-0 home defeat against Brighton.

Again, like Shoebridge, I know little about this referee. Hopefully he'll have as good a game as Shoebridge did on Saturday.

He will be assisted by Andrew Scregg (Merseyside) and Paul Simpson (Co Durham) with Mark Astley (Gt Manchester) on duty as fourth official.
