Another new face at Gawthorpe

Former Manchester City full back Richard Edghill will be training with the Clarets as he looks to get himself fit for the new season and hopefully find himself a new club.

Edghill left Manchester City last October after over a decade of service and signed for Wigan Athletic on a short term deal. He was there for three months and then joined Sheffield United but was there only three weeks.

After featuring in only eleven of Manchester City’s league games in the previous season (including both against Burnley) he had hoped to ressurect his career but played only two games in the entire season.

The first of these was in Wigan’s 3-2 victory at Notts County in the LDV Vans Trophy when they fielded a weakened team and then he played 19 minutes as a substitute for Wayne Quinn as Sheffield United lost a Division game 3-2 at Ipswich.

He is on the look out for a new club and has accepted Burnley’s invitation to train at G Gawthorpe which has come about because of his friendship with Sam Ellis from the time Sam was number two at Maine Road.

There have been no suggestions that Burnley though are set to sign the 28 year-old full back and with this week’s signings it would be unlikely.
