Another landslide and its Eyresy

It was never a contest again and Eyresy, who has recently turned down the offer of a new contract at Oldham and could well sign for Shrewsbury, collected over 85% in what was another record breaking vote for the site.

Many thought Ted ‘Tin Man’ McMinn might fight him all the way but he was a long way behind in second place with not much over 7% of the vote.

Not many could begrudge Eyresy his place, he joined the Clarets in the summer of 1993 from Blackpool and was with the club for four and a half years. His first season was without doubt his most effective when he scored nineteen league goals and as well as that our first in the play off win over Stockport.

He was given the club captaincy by Chris Waddle in 1997 but wasn’t to stay long before he was sold to Preston. Waddle has been heavily criticised for this but there are some who will tell you that the manager was left with no choice after the board agreed the deal with Preston, that it was not Waddle’s decision.

He’s still playing almost eight years later and I think is even more popular with Burnley supporters than he was at the time he played for us.

It’s time for the centre of midfield now and after some problems with the voting on the central defenders there is a new method of selecting the two players. All those considered have gone into the first vote which runs for the next three days and the winner of that vote will win a place in the side.

A second vote will then be held, starting on Sunday, with the same players with the obvious exception of the first winner. The winner of that second vote will take the second central midfield place in the side.
