Another blow for fans going to Italy

Following the success of the two previous years in Austria, this was something to look forward to yet a few weeks ago people were beginning to worry when no games had been confirmed. Then came the good news that we were likely to play Serie A club Chievo Verona plus one other game, along with news that both games would be played in the Verona area.

That was all dashed a week and a half ago and although a game was fixed up against Recreativo, just promoted to La Liga in Spain, the other game looked to be against a pretty poor outfit. Worse still, the games were both to be played at the club's training centre rather than at football grounds.

If that wasn't bad enough then we've had today's revelations that the first game against Recreativo has now been called off because they wanted to move it to the Wednesday and we are to play an Italian League XI, opposition that frankly sounds about as attractive as Alense who we will play on the Friday.

Even now that first game isn't confirmed and it could well be that Tuesday evening will be spent watching the players train. Steve Cotterill said today: “We hope to have two games out there and our supporters will be able to come and watch them.

“They will be on Tuesday and Friday and at the end of the day, if the Tuesday game out there happens to be cancelled then we will just let our supporters come in and watch us train. If they can make the effort, we owe it to them to accommodate them if anything goes pear shaped.”

It's wait and see what happens now, but the reaction from supporters set to travel has not been good, those I spoke to today feel badly let down.
