The shirt, which will be worn with black shorts and white socks, will be used for one home game during next season to commemorate the 125 year landmark which was reached yesterday.

It came as something of a surprise to a lot of supporters who, although being told it would be a kit of historic significance, believed it was set to be in our traditional colours of claret and blue, the colours we have worn for not much less than a hundred of those years.

But the club have chosen the colours used during the early years, when we wore a shirt of blue and white stripes. Extensive research has shown that these were our principal colours from 1882 to 1890. They were very thin stripes back then but as you can see from the picture the stripes on this shirt are considerably thicker and Lionel Messi wouldn't look out of place wearing it.

The new shirt has certainly received a mixed reaction on the message board. Some fans think it is a good choice, some have said it has nothing to do with our history, whilst others have just commented on whether or not they liked it.

It is certainly going to be strange seeing the Clarets (and that's who we are) playing a home game in blue and white stripes. My personal thoughts are that it is a nice looking shirt, and had the black edging been claret then it would have made an excellent away shirt. But as a shirt that is to represent our 125 years I think it has failed.

What do you think of the shirt? Do you think it is a good choice as a 125 year shirt, and regardless of that do you actually like the shirt or not? Vote in our poll on the front page.
