And now Grant departs Norwich

They were beaten 1-0 but the performance was a shocker and after the game he said he would be considering his position. Tonight Norwich have released a statement to confirm that he has left by mutual consent.

Chairman Roger Munby said: "We had a long discussion with Peter after the QPR game in which Peter said that he felt that he had been supported by the club in everything he had tried to do at Carrow Road and therefore he owed it to the board to be honest with himself and with us about whether he could turn things round. We would like to express our heartfelt best wishes to Peter and his family and wish him every success for the future."

Grant admitted: "It was a very, very difficult decision for us to make but it was right for myself and for Norwich Football Club going forward. The most important things for me have always been the supporters and the club itself. They are the two constants while managers and players come and go.

"I would like to thank everyone for the support they have given me through a turbulent twelve months and it goes without saying that I wish nothing but success for Norwich City Football Club now and forever."

It was just a year ago, in Norwich's last game before the October international break, that they last parted with a manager. That was Nigel Worthington, and he lost his job immediately after the Clarets had won 4-1 at Carrow Road.

Grant, who will be replaced on a temporary basis by his number two Jim Duffy, was appointed on 16th October last year, and now in just under a year they start the search for a replacement.

orwich have become the fourth Championship club to part with their manager this season. Gary Megson has replaced Martin Allen at Leicester whilst both QPR and Crystal Palace are looking for new managers following the sackings of John Gregory and Legend Peter Taylor.
