And another Turf Moor debutant

The Northampton referee is in his second season on the Football League list after bowing out of non-league football with the 2006 Conference Play Off Final between Halifax and Hereford at the Crisp Bowl.

His first season in the league was somewhat worrying with no fewer than twelve red cards and he's not too far behind this season having already reached seven. He'd just had a quiet couple of games at the beginning of this month but last time out handed out seven yellow cards and one red card in the League Two game between Barnet and Brentford.

He refereed five Championship games last season but this will be only his second in 2007/08. The previous one was QPR's 2-1 home win against Colchester on the Saturday before Christmas. He sent off Damion Stewart in that game.

In 23 games this season he's handed out 80 yellow cards, almost three and a half per game, and this despite four games when there have been no cards at all. Of those 36 have gone to home team players and 44 to away team players.

He's another referee I don't recall having seen, so there's not much I can say about him. He's had problems this season with some managers speaking out against him, but that will happen to all referees at some time.

The assistant referees will be Richard Hewitt (North Yorkshire) and Scott Ledger (South Yorkshire) whilst fourth official duties will be in the hands of Colin Harwood (Greater Manchester).
