All change at the Lane

Robson has inspired teams throughout his managerial career, usually the opposition who notice his lack of enthusiasm and passion on the touchline. When Sheffield United appointed him as replacement for Neil Warnock I always thought it could be doomed to failure. I did a season preview in July for a Sheffield United site and warned them they would do nowhere near as well as they thought given the appointment.

The campaign from the Blades fans was well underway when we went there at the beginning of November and reached a climax last Saturday with a 'Teasdale Out' style demonstration outside the ground in the car park.

Directors usually respond to things like that and just five days later Sheffield United have. Robson was summoned to a meeting in Belgium with PLC and FC chairmen Kevin McCabe and Terry Robinson on Wednesday, the result of that sees a number of changes.

Robson was firstly relieved of his duties and offered a director of football role, presumably to avoid having to pay him up. However, he's turned down that opportunity and has now left the club along with his assistant Brian Kidd who had been there under Warnock.

In their place come former assistant manager Kevin Blackwell as manager with our former assistant manager Sam Ellis as his number two, those appointments are until the end of the season.

Further to that club chairman Terry Robinson, the former Bury chairman, will stand down at the end of the season although he will continue as a director.

No matter who has come in to replace him, the fans will be celebrating the departure of Robson, the manager they never really wanted.
