A very difficult decision

Kevan, who joined the club in June 2004, just a week after Steve Cotterill had been appointed manager told the official site: "There is no doubt that Burnley is a very special football club and it will be a big miss for me.

"I have so many good memories of the place and its people. All the supporters that I ever came into contact with were very supportive and positive about their club and I take with me lots of good memories."

Dave highlighted the cup ties against Liverpool and Blackburn, the win at Luton with Ade's hat trick, along with the victory over Preston last season in front of the Sky cameras as the highs and added: "There will always be one or two low periods, whatever club you are at, but as far as my work went at Burnley I have nothing but fond memories."

Speaking about the club they came into over three years ago, and the work that was required to rebuild the club, he said: "It's been a long road, and one that has now come to an end for me, but I am absolutely sure that Steve and Burnley Football Club will continue to progress and I genuinely think the supporters are in for a good season.

"I have nothing but respect for Steve and he remains a very good and close friend. I feel as though I have played my part, but Steve still has a lot of good staff working for him behind the scenes and I wish everyone there all the very best."

He ended by speaking about the decision to leave. "It was a very difficult decision, a huge one in fact, to leave Championship football behind. But Notts County was my first club and it is a very close friend of mine that is taking the job. I was an apprentice there so it is my first love in many respect."

I've had the pleasure of speaking to Dave Kevan on a number of occasions. Steve Cotterill described him on Saturday as being different to him, and a good honest citizen and a popular character. I can only add that I found him to be very pleasant and approachable.

I never thought that when I spoke to him in Austria pre-season that it would be the last time I would speak to him as our assistant manager. All the very best Dave in your new job.
