A third Burnley game this season for referee Jones

Jones has been a regular with Burnley over the years since his first game against Brentford in the 1997/98 season when Chris Waddle was manager. Tomorrow will be his 28th Burnley game and his 17th at Turf Moor.

They haven't been  without controversy either. Burnley supporters will certainly have been upset at some of his performances but I think it is fair to say we revelled in his sending off of Craig Hignett in 2002 in a 3-1 home win against Coventry and some of the decisions as we beat Hull 2-0 at home in the Premier League. That Hull game was his first after the beach ball fiasco at Sunderland.

Having become a Football League referee in 1997 he was elevated to the Premier League in 2008, taking charge of a game between Hull and Wigan in August of that year for his first game at the top level.

In the 2009/10 season he was in charge of three of our games; the home game against Fulham and the away game at Wigan besides the Hull game.

This season he's already refereed 26 games of which six have been in the Championship. In those games there have been a total of 89 yellow cards with just three red cards, two of which came in Premier League games and the other in League One. Of the 89 yellow cards, 36 have gone to home team players and 53 to away team players.

His last game was the Championship 0-0 draw between Reading and Derby a week last Tuesday. Reading's Danny Guthrie and Adam Le Fondre were both yellow carded as were John Eustace and Simon Dawkins of Derby.

I'm never so sure what to expect with Mike Jones. Looking down the list below there have been good games and then some real stinkers. Hopefully he'll let the players take centre stage tomorrow and not get caught up in any controversy.

The assistant referees are Robert Merchant (Staffordshire) and Edward Smart (West Midlands). The fourth official is Football League referee Seb Stockbridge (Tyne & Wear).
