A second game for Haines

Last updated : 18 March 2011 By Tony Scholes
The London born Haines is now in his fourth season on the league list but the home game against Barnsley remains the only time I've seen him. He had a very decent game that night when his only big decision was confirming a penalty that had been given by the assistant.

He allowed the players to get on with playing, always looked to play an advantage and wasn't over fussy. His only card on the night was for Mears which, perhaps was somewhat harsh.

He's had his moments this season including seven yellow cards in the Championship game between Leeds and Crystal Palace but his average is just below three per game with 76 in 26 games with a couple of red cards thrown in.

It's all equal between home and away players with 36 yellow cards each. The two players he's sent off are Portsmouth's Jonathan Hogg in their 2-0 win at Doncaster and Mark Ellis of Torquay in a 1-0 loss at Accrington.

Haines' last game was the League One game between Tranmere and Bristol Rovers a week last Tuesday. There were three yellow cards in that game; for Gary Sawyer, Stuart Campbell and Eliot Richards, all of Bristol Rovers. It was Bristol Rovers who won the game 1-0.

Haines' performance in the Burnley v Barnsley game earned him a RATE THE REF rating of 83.33. He's in third place behind Steve Tanner and Andre Marriner.

The assistant referees are Simon Bennett (Staffordshire) and Tim Wood (Gloucestershire). The fourth official is Mark Russell (Gloucestershire).
