A point as franchised football reaches our league

Clarets Mad were not there to cover the game today instead taking in games elsewhere as we protested at the introduction of franchising in the Nationwide League.

Despite dropping two points there was some good news for us though when we heard that despite the Winkleman propaganda before the game the hockey stadium was nowhere near full and he must have got the kick off delayed in the hope that more would turn up.

This is as good a news as we could have hoped for and as the novelty wears off, the weather gets worse and the bad results continue the numbers watching will just get less and less. Despite everything only Rotherham v Gillingham, not the most attractive of 1st Division matches, pulled in a smaller crowd.

Well done to all those Burnley supporters who made the very difficult decision today to stay away, the real Wimbledon supporters I am sure will be saying thanks to you as will football supporters from around the country.

We are hoping to have a report later from the game, but this will be from a Burnley supporter who had to be there, we will also have a report from the real Wimbledon game today, they won 6-1 at Bedfont. That report will come from Martin Barnes, editor of the Burnley fanzine ‘When the ball moves’.

We will be back to providing our usual coverage for the game at Watford on Tuesday.
